Moving Mountains Co-Founder Sohail Sakhi Summits Kanchenjunga as Part of Rope Fixing Team

Sohail Sakhi of Aliabad, Hunza reaches the top of the world’s third highest peak at 8,586 m — the only Pakistani on the elite rope fixing team, in collaboration with Imagine Nepal.

Moving Mountains is proud to announce that Sohail Sakhi, co-founder of the company and one of Pakistan’s most accomplished high-altitude mountaineers, has successfully summited Kanchenjunga (8,586 m) — the world’s third highest mountain. The summit was reached at 00:12 Nepal Standard Time on 20 May 2026, as part of a rope fixing team operating in collaboration with Imagine Nepal.

Sohail was the only Pakistani climber on the rope fixing team — the group that goes ahead of all other climbers to establish fixed lines, open the route, and make the mountain accessible to every expedition that follows. It is one of the most technically demanding and exposed roles on any 8,000 m peak.

This achievement adds Kanchenjunga to an already exceptional record spanning both the Karakoram and the Himalaya. As co-founder of Moving Mountains, Sohail brings this level of experience directly to the expeditions the company runs — a rare combination of elite mountaineering ability and deep operational knowledge of the world’s most demanding ranges.

Sohail has now summited five peaks above 8,000 m: K2 (8,611 m), Nanga Parbat (8,126 m), Gasherbrum I (8,080 m), Gasherbrum II (8,035 m), and now Kanchenjunga (8,586 m).

Moving Mountains extends its heartfelt congratulations to Sohail, to Imagine Nepal, and to the entire rope fixing team. Our thoughts are with everyone on the mountain as they make their descent.
